The
USPTA was very proud to play a role in the
success of the “Mr. Paddle Tennis Doubles
Tournament” May 1-2 at Venice Beach.
I
would like to thank Mark Groves (USPTA web
designer) and Steve Gumplo
(Publicist/Marketing Consultant) for
orchestrating email blasts promoting the
tournament at the request of Bill Brothers,
"Mr. Paddle Tennis" himself. The
email blasts reached over 500 paddle tennis
players. In addition, Steve Gumplo wrote
two newspaper articles that were published in
local newspapers promoting the tournament with
the help of Mike Cohen (USPTA Tournament
Director).
A
special thanks to Fred Ealey
of the
Venice
Beach Recreation Center
Tournament Director, who was instrumental
in getting a tournament event named after one of
our own Bill Brothers - "Mr Paddle
Tennis" and a past USPTA president.
This joint effort introduces to the USPTA,
a new model that can be evaluated and possibly
implemented for tournaments in the future.
Bill
Brothers, a special thanks to you also for all
of your hard work in rallying paddle tennis
players, from the past-to present, to participate
in this event. The repairs and equipment
replacement to the courts made by you and
Venice Beach Recreation Center, are certainly
appreciated by all paddle tennis players. This
action benefited the tournament and all future
play at the Venice Beach courts.
I
applaud all USPTA e-mail registered players who
participated in the tournament as well as those
USPTA members who promoted and assisted at the
event. Special mention to the following
USPTA members:
Mike
Cohen, (USPTA Tournament Director), who was
the ‘wonderful’ voice you heard on the pa
system throughout the tournament.
Sonia Ode
Lucci,
(USPTA
Clinic Advisor), representing Wilson with
her paddle tennis products for demo and sale.
Doug
Witzman,
(USPTA
member) refereeing
matches that included the Open final.
And
all other USPTA
members who assisted as needed.
As
always, the
USPTA encourages all participants to support the
USPTA by providing feedback essential to meeting
the needs of our paddle tennis communities.
Warmest
Regards,
John Coray
Executive Director
